Danial Shah Captures a Different View of Pakistan

By on December 2, 2015

Karachi is hosting an exhibition by Danial Shah, a travel photographer. Called as ‘The Other Side’, the exhibition attempts to take people to the awe-inspiring places of Pakistan. The coverage of the geography is pretty comprehensive in these photographs, such as the burning Tharparkar region and the windy and cold Chilinji glacier.

Shah states that with this exhibition, he wants to bring before the world the Pakistan which he has actually experienced during his travels. Shah is a well-published photographer both locally and internationally. During his childhood days, he had a rather narrow and rigid perception of Pakistan as a country having a limited number of provinces and very few languages. That perception changed after several years of his tours across Pakistan.

Different View of Pakistan

It is worth noting here that in 2010, he had also started Pakistan’s first blog dedicated to travel, to record what he experiences and to narrate the events behind the photographs captured. The next year in 2011, he was given the award of Nishan-e-Azm for his work.

Shah believes that it was god’s will that he went behind capturing Pakistan through photographs. He also believes in inclusion and hopes that the time will come soon when such exhibitions which offer a glimpse of unknown destinations are open to all without any discrimination. However, the current venue (The Second Floor) was chosen as a tribute to one of his late friends, who always insisted on arranging an exhibition of his photographs. They were very close to making that happen before the untimely death.

Shah has already made up his mind about what will be the venue for the next exhibition: Saddar. The reason is the same, i.e everyone including labourers should be able to get a glimpse of the photographs, as they are captured around events that are related to them.
