In a world of intense competition, companies in the travel, transport and tourism industry are increasingly being seen to forge mutually beneficial alliances by identifying opportunities which can deliver something unique and convenient to the user. Such moves often help the partnering companies to go one-up against their respective competitors.

Uber and IHG have one such strategy in mind which aims to reduce the hassles involved for guests. According to the deal, travelers in the USA who sign up for their first Uber ride stand to earn 2000 points in the IHG rewards club. In addition to the same, they will also be offered a discount of $20 for that ride. However, in order to take advantage of this offer, guests must book a ride using the IHG app.

According to Lara Hernandez from IHG, the development of the IHG rewards club takes place by taking into account the feedback obtained from members and customers. She added that with this relationship, they are planning to make the travel experience of customers as seamless as possible throughout their journey.

On the other hand, Jonathan DiOrio from Uber stated that they already focus on combining the benefits of technology with traveling in order to make the customer’s experience delightful and that they see IHG too to be sharing the same objective. He added that this is being done so that the millions of members of the IHG Rewards Club who travel every year across the US can be encouraged to try Uber’s fast-growing service.

It may be noted that Uber is one of the fastest growing companies in the world today, with a valuation exceeding $60 billion. It continues to receive multiple rounds of funding from investors and has been giving competitors like Lyft a run for their money in multiple countries across the world.
