4 Items for a More Enjoyable Flight

By on October 13, 2015

Flying can be the fastest way to reach your vacation or business travel destination. Compared to driving, it is also a safe way to travel. A long flight, though, can be a draining experience, and can leave you tired and irritable when you reach your destination city. Fortunately, there are things you can take along that can help reduce the stress, boredom, and fatigue that comes with air travel. Having these items on board can make flying a more pleasurable experience:

1) Neck Pillow: Being stuck in a passenger plane seat for hours at a time can be hard on your neck and back, and can leave you feeling stiff and tired. A neck pillow supports your neck, helping to reduce the strain of being confined for long periods. It can also help prevent headaches during and after your flight. This C-shaped pillow fits behind your neck and offers substantial support for your head. Avoid buying a neck pillow at the airport – you will end up paying premium prices at an airport gift shop. Instead, pick up a neck pillow at a discount store or major retailer at a fraction of the cost before you go.

2) Noise-canceling headphones: In many cases, you will be surrounded by crying toddlers, incessant talkers, and snoring passengers. Listening to noise from other passengers for hours on end can be irritating and exhausting. A good set of noise-canceling headphones can block out many of these sounds while allowing you to listen to a movie or audio recording in peace. You can pick up a quality set of noise-canceling headphones at an electronics store for less than $50.

3) Tablet: Having a tablet with you provides you with a wealth of entertainment options without taking up much room in your travel bag. You can download music, audio books, and movies to your tablet before you head for the airport – this allows you to enjoy entertainment without relying on in-cabin Wi-Fi. Online and brick-and-mortar retailers offer compact tablets with prices ranging from about $250 to $700. Keep in mind that price is partially tied to the hard drive capacity of the tablet; however, a 64 Gb tablet provides much more space for storing audio and video than a 16 Gb tablet, and may be well worth the extra cost.

4) Eye pillow: Sleep can be elusive on long flights, particularly if you are traveling during the day. Still, catching a nap can make the flight seem less stressful, and can leave you feeling refreshed when you reach your destination. Pack an eye pillow to block out the light and give yourself the opportunity to recharge. You can purchase an eye pillow containing lavender, which gives off a calming aroma to help you relax during air travel.
