How to Plan Your First Solo Adventure

By on July 13, 2016

Planning your first ever trip as a solo traveler can be a pretty daunting experience. When you’re used to planning vacations and trips as a group or couple, you’re used to compromising and making sure that everyone is satisfied with major decisions such as the destination, hotel and activity plans. However, when traveling on your own, it’s all about you and what you want. In order to make sure that you plan the perfect solo trip, it’s a good idea to keep some simple guidelines in mind.

Read Travel Reviews

If you’re thinking of going on a solo trip but have not yet decided on the destination, one of the best things to do is read other people’s travel reviews and experiences. There are numerous travel blogs out there – some written by other solo travelers – which describe different destinations in perfect detail and include lots of information which you may find useful. Travel review sites, for example Path to Luxury, include plenty of information about a range of areas including details on where’s good to stay, eat and things to do. Gathering all of this information together before booking your trip will give you a great idea of which destinations are suited to your personal travel needs.

Get Involved with Other Travelers

Getting involved with other travelers is a great way to make your first solo trip seem less of a daunting experience, and you’ll also make some great friends along the way. You will be surprised as to how many people actually do set off on their travels alone, and it’s always nice to have like-minded people who you can talk to and share advice with, or even meet up with when you’re both in the same destination. Social media is a great place to start looking for travelers in a similar situation to yourself, as there are many groups, for example on Facebook, which are designed specifically for people looking for other travelers who they can buddy up with and get to know.

Do Your Research

Before you visit an area, it’s essential to do your research and know exactly what to expect. Plan your itinerary as you would if you were traveling as part of a group, but don’t feel that you have to stick to it rigidly – after all, one of the best things about traveling on your own is that you can steer off track a bit and do things impulsively if you wish. However, having a good idea of the things that you’d definitely like to do in the area will not only ensure that you get the most from your trip and don’t miss out, but it’ll also help you to stay within your budget. Along with that, it’s also a good idea to research the area overall, for example how safe it is and what to expect from the locals – e.g. is English widely spoken.

Booking your first ever trip as a solo traveler is exciting yet also daunting. Because of this, it’s important to be well-prepared!
