Three Tips for Finding Cheap Flights

By on June 29, 2015

It is relatively easy to find cheap flights as long as you know where to look. However, it also depends on when you are planning to book your vacation.

If you are booking in advance, you shouldn’t have too many issues. If you are booking last-minute, it is certainly going to be more difficult to find the best deals.

I have a number of special techniques that I use when I am looking for the cheapest flights to the destination I’m interested in visiting. Here are some of my favorites below.

Research, research, research!

You have to do your research if you want to find the best deals. The first thing I do is check a number of online search engines to get an idea of the market prices for airline tickets. My go-to websites are usually, and

Tips for Finding Cheap Flights

Search for Nearby Airports

I also do a number of searches for flights to and from different airports in the area. It may not seem practical, however, in many cases, secondary airports are within an acceptable distance of my departure or destination city, and so I can sometimes save money by flying with low cost airlines to or from these less important hubs.

Check Prices for One-Way Tickets

Lastly, you may also notice that a single fare is sometimes more expensive than a return far for long-haul flights. Even though you want to fly one-way, check the prices for return fares – you may be surprised to find that they are cheaper.

When it comes to finding last minute deals I never lose hope – especially during off-peak times. Search online travel search engines for last-minute flights and special offers pages as many airlines sell off their unfilled seats to avoid an empty flight taking off and of course to make a few extra dollars versus making nothing at all.

Remember that if you find a good price, trust your instincts and buy it as it is unlikely to go any lower. Airfares are changing all the time and are usually on the rise. So don’t wait around or you will miss out on a good deal!

Thanks for including Dohop in your post on finding cheap flights. You may not know this, but an additional thing Dohop does that others don’t, is search and create itineraries that combine airlines and low cost carriers. you may have to pick up your luggage in a connecting airport, but you could save hundreds of dollars.

    Thanks again.
